NCCONFIG provides a central place for managing information describing the various files that make up NoteCards. The main "hook" from which all other information is hung is the global list NC.ConfigFiles. The atoms in this list are the root names of the various files managed through NCCONFIG. Each file in this list has a special property called ConfigProps, the value of which is a list of property name-form pairs to be saved and restored. The CAR of each list element is a property name, and the CADR of each element is a form to be applied to the file name to compute the property value. (Note: the directory name given to NC.UpdateConfig is also supplied to this form; in all current useage this is simply the connected directory). Installing NoteCards on a new server To install a new version of NoteCards on any directory, first set NC.InstallFlg non-NIL, connect to the directory on which the new version is to be installed, then load NoteCards. With the flag set, some files will be loaded differently than during normal use. After loading completes, MAKEFILE NCCONFIG, including compilation. Subsequently, loading NoteCards normally from the connected directory will load only the specific versions current at installation time, even if new versions of some files have appeared since that time. The configuration machinery is flexible enough to allow some files always to be loaded from the most recent version if this is desireable. See the complete description above for details.
