The information included here was compiled from questionnaires which were mailed to all exhibitors prior to the SIGGRAPH '86 conference and personally delivered to each booth on the conference floor. Product descriptions were extracted from the final program for the conference. Although other companies may also provide educational grants and discounts, completed questionnaires were received only from the companies listed below. Listing a company or product in this compilation does not imply endorsement by either ACM or SIGGRAPH. A written request, preferably through the local sales representative, will be evaluated by the selection committee. Grants: Used equipment may be loaned. Also, local institutions may avail themselves of the opportunity to use the system at the training facility for research. As with the discounts and donations, qualified researchers may request, through their local sales representative, either the loan of surplus equipment or scheduled time on the training system when seminars are not in session. Assistance: Limited consultation and recommendations are provided, drawing upon in-house expertise.

Grants: Under technology trade agreements, an additional 25% discount is given. Depending on the individual situation, this could go as high as 100%.

Educational discount: Standard Educational Discount (SED) applied if the product, either hardware or software, is used for administrative purposes or is an add-on for administrative or academic computing. Educational Grant Allowance Program (EGAP) applies if the product, either hardware or software, is used for academic or research purposes and is part of a new or upgrade CPU system purchase. Prime's program is open to any vocational, technical high school or any two or four year college or university that is a non-profit institution working in academics or research. Donations: The educational institution requesting a donation must submit a proposal with the Prime representative to Prime Corporate Headquarters for review by the grant committee. This proposal includes general information regarding the institution, goals of the department requesting the donation, number of students and graduates, detailed credentials of faculty utilizing the system and information on the research and academic use of the software and/or hardware. Grants: Prime sponsored a CAD specific grant program in 1984-1985. Such a program is again under consideration for 1986-1987. Details can be forwarded upon program announcement. Assistance planned: "CAD/CAM Educational Institution Interest Group" for those academic institutions that have received grants or donated CAD/CAM hardware and software from Prime is being planned.

Educational discount: The PC and minicomputer educational version of ANSYS (R) program software is offered for a $200 lease price. (Commercial value of these leases ranges from $3,600 to $50,000 per year.) Also, IBM mainframe (VM/CMS) and CDC Cyber mainframe (NOS) educational versions are offered for $1,000 per year. Program usage is for educational purposes such as class assignments or student projects and research only. Funded research projects are allowed by special arrangements and require CPU usage fees. A year-end report on usage is required by all schools using ANSYS. Technical papers and reports utilizing ANSYS are also requested from the universities. Grants: In extremely limited cases, special arrangements have been made with (412) schools involved in sophisticated projects. Universities must already be using the ANSYS program for instructional or project work. They can submit proposals for specialized development projects involving joint industry/university programs.

Donations: Computer hardware and software are awarded to academic institutions. A quarterly topic is published, and educators are invited to write proposals addressing that topic. The proposal may request up to $10,000 retail value in Radio Shack computer hardware and software. An impartial review board made up of 10 educators from around the country decides the winners. Grants Application Packages are available by written request to the above address. Grants: Same as above. Assistance: All educators are eligible for free training in "Educational Computing Languages and Applications" through Radio Shack Computer Centers.

TEMPLATE, The Software Division of Megatek
