In this loadup (the Eris June 6 one) and maybe since time immemorial, the commands for many system files have not been smashed.'
'
E.g., BREAKCOMS, HELPDLCOMS, PRETTYCOMS, EDITCOMS...'
'
Poking around, it seems like this includes all the files that are loaded after the MAKEINIT (i.e., by LOADUP) up until FILEPKG comes in.'
'
Any ideas?'

I think this is due to a minor bug in the "dummy" definition of SMASHFILECOMS found in APUTDQ -- namely, it needs a line '
   (SET FILECOMS ''NOBIND)'
I''ll add that in, and try a loadup later (since I need the recent change to RECORD with SWAPPEDXPOINTER).'
