If you have SAMEDIR loaded, and you MAKEFILE a file into a directory that you aren''t connected to, it quietly doesn''t write the file, because underneath a NLSETQ on MAKEFILEFORMS it tries to UNPACKFILENAME on a list of directory names.'
'
This is Fatal because I almost lost an afternoon''s work when I did a MAKEFILES and walked away.'

I assert that you probably had SAMEDIR loaded from <LispUsers> instead of <LispCore>Library>, yet had <LispCore>Sources>ABC loaded. This state could happen given confusion in the setting of DIRECTORIES (now fixed, I believe), and the unfortunate state of having SAMEDIR on both LispUsers and Lisp>Library (also now fixed, I think).'
