'
I''ve heard a number of conflicting stories about the current status of loading the latest release from floppies.'
'
There was some suspicion that the problem came from inconsistent Installation Utilities.'
'
(a) does anybody have the scoop on this? What is the status, did anybody make an installation utility, what happened to MakeLispFloppies.DOC etc? '

I would appreciate hearing any problems on this one.'
'
I am confused by a message from halvorsen.pa re': FAILING INSTALLATIONUTILITY'

I am NOT referring to the InstallLispTool of 29-Nov-83, but rather to the current InstallLispTool (26-Jan-84). The problem is that there are 3500 taken up by diagnostics, defaultly 1000 pages is assigned to DSK, this does not leave enough room on the disk to fetch full.sysout. I had to reduce the allocation to DSK reformatting with Othello.'
----------------------------------------------------------------'
'
This morning I tried to install on 10Mb using "carol" released installation floppy. I was not able to have any problems.'
'
The volume configurations are '
	Diagnostics':	3500 pages'
	Dsk': 1000 pages'
	Lisp 11688 pages'
	'
This gives a default of 9688 pages for vMem.'
	'
The Full.sysout is about 5900 pages, and Lisp.Sysout is about 4600 pages. '
	'
As I recall when John Vittal and Tayloe S. went to London, they are using the 10Mb machine and with same Installation Floppy. I was not able to locate John (He might be in Boston again), maybe Tayloe can clarify this for me.'
	'
I must be missing something again from halvorsen.pa message. '
	'
	'
	Confused one,'

'
These problems seem to be happening because of incompatible sysouts and initial microcode. When you and Judy stabilize the new Installation Utility for Fugue.6, we will make sure PARC is updated. '

I believe that Kris meant to say that the problem was with the "Installation Utility" floppy, which has incorrect values in the Prometheus.script. As such, it is Tayloe Stansbury who set up the values on the floppy that Kris has.'

'
a) there is no [phylum]<Lisp>Current>MakeLispFloppies.DOC as you said in your message.'
'
b) if there were to be one, it should be placed on <LispCore>Next> or given to Michael Sannella to place there (or on <LispNew>Next>). '
'
c) AR#65 comingles two separate issues': one of which is to update the documentation and script for making floppies (MakeLispFloppies.DOC), one of which was a potential AR with the Lisp.PrometheusScript which is used in the installation utility. Your message indicated that you had only resolved the first issue.'

1) I have moved [phylum]<Lisp>Current>MakeLispFloppies.DOC to <lispcore>next>.'
'
2) In general, nobody but I should put anything on [phylum]<lisp>'
'
3) AR 65 started when it seemed that there was a problem with the InstillationUtility. Eventually, this was discovered to be untrue, so I converted the AR to the more general one of documenting the floppy-making procedure, which seemed to be one of the causes of the confusion.'

Thanks Mike.'
'
In the future I''ll notify you of the files (located at Rose) when needed to be moved to Phylum. (I got confused always on where to store files, I am trying to keep myself straight on this)'
'
Are we agreed that there is no more "open" problems on this AR. I think the doc contains the right script to make the InstallationUtility floppy.'
