Subject': Resolve TEDIT/TTYIN incompatibilities'

'
There are a number of differences in TEDIT and TTYIN behavior which new users find quite annoying; in particular, that extending a selection means Delete in TTYIN, but not in TEDIT, that TTYIN has the meta keys, etc.'
'
This task is to propose a design for a uniform user interface (and DEDIT too?) and then implement.'
'
System': Text/TTYIN (plus DEDIT plus TEdit, but no way of saying that),'
'
Impact': Moderate (it really does get in the way more than Annoying)'
