The following table design uses a prototype table formatting tool for Tioga documents. Underlying the table description is a grid system, shown in the sample as gray lines. The position of the grid lines is completely determined by the content of the table. Table entries are placed inside four grid lines and can be aligned flush with the grid line or centered either horizontally or vertically. Rules (the typesetting term for the black lines) can be placed along a grid line as desired. Vertical rules are as easy as horizontal ones.
Note that the table content can be anything that the Tioga typesetter knows how to format, including illustrations, text, or even other tables.
