DeltaResource CEDAR 10.0 -- DeltaResource -- measuring deltas in resource usage Russ Atkinson Copyright 1990, 1991 Xerox Corporation. All rights reserved. Abstract: DeltaResource is a simple command to measure resource usage during execution of other commands. DeltaResource is also a simple interface that provides a thin veneer over the Unix rusage call. Created by: Russ Atkinson Maintained by: Russ Atkinson Keywords: delta, delta resource, performance, rusage XEROX Xerox Corporation Palo Alto Research Center 3333 Coyote Hill Road Palo Alto, California 94304 DeltaResource Usage: DeltaResource DeltaResource (aka Delta) is a simple uninterpreted command that measures and prints the resource usage difference incurred by the execution of the remainder of the command line. For example, the following lines were taken from the execution of delta on the command "interp 4": % delta interp 4 &27: 4 (0x4) Elapsed seconds: 0.016, bytes allocated: 1928, utime: 0.030, stime: 0.020 Elapsed seconds is the elapsed real time for the command in seconds. bytes allocated is the number of bytes allocated in the heap. utime is the user time in seconds. stime is the system time in seconds. By specifying the -g switch one gets additional GC statistics. By specifying the -v switch one gets additional system statistics, where the additional fields are derived from the getrusage system call in Unix.
