What to do on Monday, July 22, 1985 to convert Alpine servers from InterimDirectory package to the directory package.
Make the server version 4 code available:
Bringover /Indigo/RAlpine/Server60/Top/AlpUmbrella
Shutdown the server, reboot and restart the server code. The server is then inaccessible to existing RPC clients because the RPC interface version number mismatches.
Put the new yodel and supporting AlpineUserImpls in the ///commands/ directory on the servers:
Bringover /Indigo/RAlpine/Yodel/Yodel.df.
Convert the users' directories:
Using the yodel just brought over, create a new owner, InterimDirectoryOwner, to hold the old directory files. A quota of 2000 should be sufficient. You must assert AlpineWheel on the Administrator menu. The Convert button is on the User menu. It converts a single owner at a time. Don't convert SpecialOwnerForAlpineAdmin.
List the owners on the server. Clip the list to another viewer and then ListInterim Convert List for each owner. If ListInterim shows no files, Convert will not do anything (except produce a `no files' message), and List will probably fail with a damagedDirectory error, but also may be ok. Don't worry about it. Any creation by the user of a file will create the directory as well. If the user already has an AlpineDirectory, Convert will do nothing (except produce a 'directory already exists' message). The ListInterim and List results will be different in this case.
Make CedarChest software available:
Bringover [Cedar]<CedarChest6.0>Top>Environment.df
AlpineBackup.df!10 1843 22-Jul-85 09:10:37 PDT
AlpineShared.df!4 6958 22-Jul-85 09:04:04 PDT
AlpineUser.df!8 6324 22-Jul-85 09:07:38 PDT
Cypress.DF!3 11918 22-Jul-85 09:13:05 PDT
WalnutKernel.df!18 8417 22-Jul-85 09:14:59 PDT
Yodel.df!3 3452 22-Jul-85 09:33:39 PDT
are the relevant files for the changeover, if you're worried about whether they've reached your server yet or not.
